Mixing the Celtic rock intensity of The Waterboys with the guitar driven anthems of The War On Drugs and introspection of Ryan Adams is Lucky Bones – aka Eamonn O’Connor, a singer songwriter from Dublin, Ireland.
A chance encounter in Kansas City in 2009 with the Austin, Texas-based producer Stephen Ceresia while Lucky Bones was performing resulted in the first album Together We Are All Alone, released the following year. The album was recorded in Bastrop, Texas with some of Austin’s finest session players and met with critical acclaim, described as “The first great album of 2010” by Americana UK.
On returning to Ireland, O’Connor put together a band to tour and begin work on new music. This new line up returned to Texas and recorded their second album in the autumn of 2012. The result, Someone’s Son 2013 was also lauded. “Well put together thought provoking lyrics,” said Maverick Magazine. Someone’s Son became ‘Album Of The Week,’ on Ireland’s national broadcaster RTE Radio 1 upon release and as a result gained extensive airplay. More tours followed mainly of the USA and Europe most often as a stripped down duo with Eamonn and the band’s lead guitarist Peter O’Grady taking the role of multi-instrumentalist and backing singer. The band followed with a five track EP Blessed in 2015.
Back in studio with the rest of the current lineup: Leon Kennedy (bass), Conor Miley (keys), and Binzer Brennan (drums) in January 2017, work began on the third full length studio album. The album was recorded and produced in Dublin by Gavin Glass and mixed by Scott Halliday. Drawing on previous influences and the synth sounds of The Cure and atmospheric feel of early albums by The Verve it is due for release in May 2018.
